8th August Eagles vs South Pine

Tchad scored the first goal of the game with a nice shot to the keeper's left hand side. We gradually got on top of a depleted South Pine team and ended up winning 6-1.

City North vs Kenmore Ligers 1st August

Our first game up in Div 2 was against Kenmore who beat us 3-1 and dominated the game back in June. For this rematch we only had 11 players for the first half and it would be a good guide as to how we've improved as a team since coming up to Div 2 playing against strong team. At half time we were up 5-1! Everything seemed to go right for us and almost every attack seemed to result in a goal. Final score ended up 8-1!

Steve Dart put Chappy through for a nice goal with Chappy chipping it over the keeper as he came out. Steve Dart and Mustafa both drilled nice hard shots for goals in the first half. Matt Sevenyhazi whipped in a great cross for his brother Mick to out jump the defender and head it in. There was also a great goal second half with Mustafa running in front of his defender to volley in Graham's freekick. It was Mick's second 4 goal game in a row.

All up it was a great game for us - if we can keep this sort of form up we're a chance of making our 3rd consecutive grand final! That would be Div 4 then Div 3 and now Div 2. See how we go. Our women's team also had a really good day winning their first match for the year 3-2 over Grovers!

One of the Kenmore supporters has very graciously sent me a video of all the goals!

Match vs Salvos Raptors 26th July

2nd vs 3rd place match. We only had 11 players for this game again so no subs and it was pretty warm at 1pm. Salvos got an early goal and we were a little ordinary in the first half. Mick got one goal back for us before half time. Second half we started to dominate the game a bit more and Mick scored 3 more to give us a 4-1 win! One goal Steve Dart crossed the ball over the defender and Mick volleyed it in over the keepers head. We're starting to get a much better passing game happening which is great. Kenmore Ligers next week at Devine Court so that should give us a better idea of how we'll go in finals. If anyone is keen on writing some match reports or just writing any old thing on here just send me an email and I'll add you to the list. I've also updated the match reports below for the last few weeks. Any errors or stuff you can remember for the tally let me know!

Round 9 - Kenmore Ligers 3 - City North 1
A good induvidual goal from Matt Stew bulldozing his way through a few defenders in an otherwise forgetable performance from our team.

Round 10 - City North 5 - South Pine 3
Good game for us starting with only 10 players and going down an early goal. Matt Stew and Mick both had great games and some nice finishing was the difference between the teams. Townie and Dave Wicks were hammering down the wings and got a goal each by following in shots that the keeper couldn't handle.

Round 11 (July 11th) - Enogerra 2 - City North 1
Tight game - we played some good football against a strong, physical side. They jagged 2 fortuitous goals including one that was a cross that floated in to the net. The goal we scored was probably the best team goal we've scored all year with some nice passing all the way from the backs through to a nice angled throughball from Matt Stew for Mick to run onto and smash past the keeper.

Round 14 - City North 3 - Kustard 2
Great game with only 11 players against a good side with 14 players. First goal was a cracker from Matt Holden. He was in left back and came forward to hit a shot from about 35 metres out which went like a rocket and bent past the keeper and straight into the net. Second goal Sean put in from a corner and the third Mick put a nice shot back past the keeper from a crossfield ball from Matt Stew.

Match Report Rnd 6 vs CCC United

This match vs the undefeated CCC United was our best overall team performance so far. CCC were top of the table (their first round result wasn't up but they won 6-nil) and had previously beaten Salvos 3-1 who had in turn beaten us fairly easily in round 4.

The game was evenly poised until Matt Stewart scored a cracker of a first goal. He saw the keeper off his line and from out near the left sideline hit a great shot over his head. Not long after Mick put a nice throughball through for Matt Stew to score his second. Mick scored a nice goal in the second half that was ruled out for offside (although we didn't think it was :)).

I thought this was our best team performance of the year with everyone covering for each other and playing hard in whatever position they were asked to play in. Even when we tired a little in the second half and they were on top for a while we made it hard for them to break us down and get any clear cut chances on our goal. Good effort lads! :)
